Converting vernacular names (in Hindi or otherwise) to botanical names is a
hazardous business. One and the same vernacular name may well be used for
many different plants, each in quite local usage. "Aagi" in one village may
be something quite different from what it is in another village, fifty miles
further. Or not.

This is all the more so in a country as big as India. To do this with any
degree of reliability it needs someone expert in both the language involved
and in the local flora.

This is a good place to start looking. They have some handy monographs and
a fairly good selection of name conversions (though everything that is on
site does not necessarily appear in the conversion table so do have a good
browse...)
