Willow stems to aid rooting?

Rooting cuttings in water. Will tossing a couple of willow
twigs into the jar work as well as using premade willow water?

I have heard that it can, but my results have been moldy. Better results
occured with spring willow twigs, about 30-40 cm long, immersed in about
10 cm of water, allowed to grow roots, then discard the willow, and use
the water to root your cuttings. It might also work to boil that water
before putting your cuttings in it.
