Unknown plant

Hi, group.

My girlfriend and myself have seen an exceptionally beautiful plant
on our vacation in northern Italy (Friuli). We instantly decided that
we want to have this plant in our own garden, but couldn't find any
trace of it in our botanic books... Does anybody of you folks know
this plant and can - by chance - identify it for us?
If you know this plant and it's not too much trouble, maybe you even
know an internet link for proper handling/cultivation or give some
insight/tips?
I'm looking forward to hearing from you for the sake of my sanity
(given that my girlfriend can't seem to find other topics for talking
right now) ;-)

Thanks in advance for any answers and/or hints...

It's a cane begonia or angelwing begonia. There are many hybrids.

Try those names in Google imagines to see if you can find the variety
you like.

It is an angel wing begonia (because of the shape of the leaves), also known as
a cane begonia (because of the cane-like stems). AFAIK, all begonias are
tropical and therefore hardy only in USDA Zone 10 and south. Lots of people
elsewhere grow them in pots and move them indoors during the cold months. There
are some begonias that survive outdoors at least into southern Zone 8 by
regrowing from underground parts, but I don't know of any cane types that do.

For pictures and culture info Google is your friend.

Thanks again for your insight. You've been a great help and we've now
already found more than enough information about the cane begonia.
Thank you very much indeed!
