Default Need mould-killing lamp.

Is there such a thing?
We need this for a sauna Jacuzzi and bathroom.
The idea would be to leave it on overnight occasionally to kill any
spores/mould/fungi.

Yup, those UV (blue) fluorescent shaped tubes you see in a lot of food
places and sometimes hairdressers do that. But it's not likely to be
effective unless you have it in a position that there are no shadows -
wherever you have a shadow cast, then things will grow there. You can
buy anti-bacterial and anti-fungal paint for putting in bathrooms etc,
as well as long(ish)-lasting sprays that just come in a manual spray
bottle - you just spray and wipe the same as you would with a kitchen
bench cleaner etc.

You should have some type of interlock such that the light cannot
operate with anyone in the room, or with the door open.

If it's for the water, then you can probably get an aquarium style ultra
violet filter unit that circulates water through a closed chamber with a
germicidal lamp in it. But if it's for a room, then you are looking
more for something like an ozone generator, which in this application
could either be a continuous low level unit, or a stronger unit that was
switched on automatically at night when the room wasn't occupied.

Ozone generators are also available for treating water, with the main
advantage over chlorine that they don't use any chemicals, and the
active component breaks down harmlessly into oxygen within about 20
minutes of generation.

I use a low level ozone generator in my own house as an air freshener,
since it gets rid of any organic smells and bacteria by oxidising them.
It also gives a nice fresh smell when you get close to the unit. You
can see how I built it on my website at http://www.bigclive.com

Now lets see if anyone starts ranting about the dangers of ozone....

Yes, but not the "blacklight" lamps that are used to excite dayglow
materials. They are "blue" but have longer wavelength output that will
not kill mold spores.

You need a germicidal lamp, which looks like a fluorescent lamp and
runs on fluorescent lamp ballasts but contains no phosphor (hence it
is technically not a fluorescent lamp) and is constructed in a tube
made from quartz or a special glass that will pass 254nm radiation.

Note that in addition to killing mold spores, 254nm radiation will
damage parts of your body, especially your eyes. So make sure you
NEVER look at this lamp when it is on.
