Another Twist
Remember I said it is a characteristic of Sophronitis hybrids to have this
little twist in the leaves, for whatever reason. There is another genus in the Cattleya alliance, called Laelia. Well, a few years ago, one of those troublemakers decided that the Brazilian Laelias are not related to the Mexican Laelias. He took all the Brazilian Laelias & stuck them in the genus Sophronitis, where they are to this day, until someone takes pity on them & puts them in a new genus or somewhere else. I have a hybrid of one of the rock-dwelling miniature Brazilian former Laelias with other Cattleyas, which recently reached maturity & bloomed. I took a look at it today, & sure enough, the adult leaves have that twist. Iris, Central NY, Zone 5a, Sunset Zone 40 "If we see light at the end of the tunnel, It's the light of the oncoming train."
