Did you hear the one about the rabbi that never charged for circumcision?

He only took tips!!!

What does growing overbred smelly cabbages on thorny sticks have to do with
botany, you cross-posting maniac?

You should stick to the rose newsgroup and keep everybody else alone.

Prune the hell out of them in the spring. Cut them all back to the 5-leaf
stems. I recreated the most intense yellow rose bush that way.

Hybrid roses require a lot of attention. Actually the easiest way is to grow
the old-fashioned shrub roses. The individual floweers don't look like much,
but they are hardy & disease resistant, and some are very fragrant.
If you must grow hybrid teas & similar varieties:
If you are in a cold climate, plant with the bud union 2 inches below ground
level.
full sun
well-drained soil with lots of organic matter.
mulch well
use a systemic insecticide. The Rose and Flower treatment granules, which
contain insecticide & fertilizer, are the best treatment.
Feed well.
Spray regularly for blackspot & look for disease resistant cultivars.
Keep weeds & other plants away.
Learn how to prune. Whenever a flower dies, prune promptly to an outward facing
bud.
If you are in a cold climate, use rose cones in winter.
