I can not tell you how great it is to have this group back together. Over
the winter I went to rec.ponds a couple of times in the odd hope it had
cleaned up, but, of course, it hadn't.

Jim, what do you mean about formally subscribing?

Isn't it nice?
I was thinking why old rec.ponds ticks along.
It just delightfully low tech. There are big, glitzy,
colourful forums out there but I always tend to
get lost in them. Rec.ponds feels more homey.

Hi Joe,

WELCOME! We all love having a friendly board without the conflictual
posting. I share Jan's sense of an homey-ness about it. And some
knowledgeable people.

When I mentioned subscribing, I was of the mistaken opinion that the
'subscribers' count on Google reflected all newsgroup subscriptions,
instead of just those through Google. On my Bellsouth address, we can
'subscribe' to news groups. I get rpm through the Google interface.
So...when I saw lots of posters and few 'subscriptions' I thought
others might be posting but not 'subscribing' on their own provider...
I was wrong. Enjoy the group. We will have to assess our number of
participants by posts rather than by subscribers, unless someone wants
to make a tally of posters. Doesn't really matter, however, as we are
not in a contest or a conflict. We are simply a group of friends.

I've been working on my web site, but so far it is way down my priority list
(I'm a web and database designer)

We have had Colombo for 4 years now. My wife, a realtor found him at the
bottom of a swimming pool at a house she was holding open. He gets along
great with the Koi & shebunkin. He has free reign of the yard (he has even
come in the house a few times when the door was open) We have a fenced yard
so he can't get out. One time we didn't see him for a few days. We finally
found him in the skimmer - know we call it the Colombo Jacuzzi!

I'm betting Columbo is a red-earred slider
turtle.
At first I got him mixed up with someone that
posted about an albino catfish and was having
a hard time picturing a catfish walking in the
backdoor...

There are walking catfish. If I remember correctly they are non native and
nasty.
