Well, really no. You just have to plan for where it will overflow.

Yep, either have a slightly lower end, or better, for more control, put in
an over flow pipe. For my lily pond we plan to build it into the filter
barrels since it is a formal pond, from the filter barrels overflow can run
out onto the lawn. ~ jan

When I was building I was advised to build an overflow point that went
between stones as opposed to an open chute the fish could swim out.
As important as overflow, don't build in such a way as to allow
rainwater run off to flow into the pond either.
