Electric Fence

I have installed an electric fence. Now my only worry is that the
raccoon can just jump right into the pond head first.

Can anybody who uses an electric fence or knows about raccoons squash
this theory ?

Well, I can say that in all my years in internet ponding I've
never heard of a raccoon jumping over an electric fence...

My only problem with an electric fence was having the tribe
of 13 year old boys around here use it as a test of macho -
who can run up and grab the fence and take the shock?
(Then we let them drive cars!)

k :-)

I'm going to put it on a timer so that it turns on only after dark.

Isn't that when teenagers get up and out, especially in the summer? ;-)

Never had a raccoon jump over here. Kind of hard for them to fish and swim
at them same time. ~ janj

We have lots of raccoons here in Toronto. I have had no problems since
I installed my electric fence. The raccoons learn quick. I can't
imagine one jumping the fence. I bet they think it's going to be worse
the further you go in.

As usual I've tried posting to this thread but nothing shows up.
Trying Google direct now:

Maybe this will work around my pond in a pot?

Can someone offer product details?

We went to the local ranch & farm supply and purchased the tiniest unit.
They do make "just for ponds" units with all the equipment. We gather what
I think were better materials for $50, the "just for pond" kit was $100+.

Btw, I have heard if there is a way over, like a tree or such with ground
on the other side, they will figure that out. ~ jan

I'm in the process ordering my pond supplies and came across this:
http://www.fancykoioutlet.com/supply/fidoshock.htm

Very good price and all the stuff you need. This is about the price we
paid, but we had to collect materials and than make our simple short posts
to hold the wire. ~ jan
