Greetings!
I used to be very active on the old rec.ponds news group before it was
taken over by trolls.

I'm still a ponder and after many years of doing nothing on my website
I've updated a couple of my pages.

I was checking links on my pond winterization page here--

I had about 5 or 6 links to folks who used to chat on rec.ponds.
Most of those links are not working.
I'm hoping to get in touch with some of the "old" ponders from back in
the late
90s??

Just curious if any of you have continued with your personal pond web
pages?
If you have any info or links to the old crowd web pages can you
send them to me or post here?
I'l love to place updated -working- links to some of the old bunch.

FYI, it seems the page on my site that gets the most hits is my
winterization page.
I just stuck that one online years ago on a whim.
If you google for
goldfish pond winter
I am the top hit.
Cool but this was not my plan!! Heck, there was no google when I
built that page.

Our main interest switched to flower gardens but we still have the
original
pond in place for 12 years. Still using the original hard shell
liner!

Hi Dan! You made it. Hope you get some response, rec.ponders need to shake
off either snow or cobwebs and write in.

Here in SEastern Washington State we seem to be having an early spring.
Down by the koi ponds it hit a grand high of 64F on this sunny day after a
quarter inch of rain yesterday and last night. Totally beautiful! Wish I
wasn't suffering from bronchitis + head cold or I would have set up the
frog ponds... perhaps tomorrow? Suppose to be another nice one. ~ jan

Welcome back (well, sort of) to the new rec.ponds.moderated.

Phyllis and i have our pond as well.

It is really nice to have a group where folks are basically friends.

No webpages anymore or pond blog at this time.
Pond is still going fine, some sprogs of iris showing
today and noticed the goldfish up at the surface looking
for bugs (noticed buggy hatchings).

Remember when I called you Kathy Thirtysomething by mistake!
Oh, well.
I remember when posting pond pictures online was new and exciting and
there
were bunches of us doing it. Not lately.
I made some web site revisions this winter but I've been trying to get
myself to do
that for 2 years.
No idea when/if I'll do another update.
Once in a great while someone will write me and say thanks for the
flower or pond
pictures.
Just the other day an advertiser from the UK offered to pay my website
bill for a year
if I'd place a little "paragraph" on one of my oldest outdated pages.
I took 'em up on it and so Ky-Dan.com is paid up for another year.
I never had any aspirations for profit, just looking for fishy folks
to chat with.

Anyway-- if anyone out there has a personal pond or garden page, drop
me a line or post here and

cold snowy drizzly dark winter. I checked the ponds the other day and
didn't even see a bullfrog pollywog at the bottom. Even in the
miserable cold the daffodils are up about 5". Everything else is drab
brown and gray.

You've mentioned hanging it up, when and where are you planning to move? I

Warmer is always better. Given that getting anywhere is just a
planetrip, have you considered the Southwest (suggested because of
comparable cost of living)? Hot in the Summer in some areas, but not
that terrible humidity you probably know and love ;-)

course, can buy show shovels, windshield ice scrapers, and heavy
overcoats very cheaply at any thrift store. Things that are radically
different are humidity and flying bugs- almost a total lack there of.

The summers- May to Oct- can be beastly hot, depends a lot on elevation.
Even Tucson has snow skiing about an hour away up Mt. Lemmon. The
rest of the year varies between wonderful and beautiful. An ideal
situation is to snow-bird. Here for the winter, back home for the summer.

Diego as near to the beach as $$$$$$ allow. The weather is near ideal
year round and has enough of a culture base to make it interesting.

I would love to be a snowbird. South in the winter and NY in the
summer. :) We've discussed that also and the RV would make is possible.
My family has land upstate NY where I can "camp" for the cost of the
electricity I use. They don't want the money but I wouldn't mooch from
them. The possibilities are endless.

Right now we're still sorting through a lifetime collection of
possessions. We're selling, throwing away and giving away loads of
things. We're drastically downsizing. As seniors, we don't need a
place this big anymore. Even the grandkids are working and in college
and HS now so no more overnight guests.

With you on the heat. I was thinking of a place like Sedona or (better)
Flagstaff. Santa Fee is one of my favorite all-time places. Tucson &
Phoenix are Satan's Inferno in the Summer.

San Diego is nice, but pricey. Way out of the range for people used to
Midwest and South home prices.

Reel:
Atlanta's a pretty town. Lot going on there, too, though I think we
probably have different ideas of what "mild" is compared to where I live
in Ventura, CA. LOL.

A web hosting company I work with is based there, so chat often about
local weather, etc. with the staff.

Family for you is a major consideration.

Geeze Chip, as $$$$$$$$ allows, sure you not already as close to a San
Diego beach as most in Vegas can get? LOL!!!! What is it? A 5-7 hour
commute from there? ;-) I'm similar, a 5-6 hour commute to the beach... but
our beaches aren't year round swim suit weather (if ever). ;-) But we do
live close enough to visit Forks & Spoons. ~ jan

Atlanta has a winter, that's for sure. :-) We have all the time in
the world to decide. We may even do some traveling first.
