Spring approaches MS: Lillies sending up pads; irises growing

Spring is actually coming here in MS. Our lilies are sending up pads
and the irises are sending leaves. They hyacinth may or may not have
made it through the very cold days of winter...we shall see. The
water is crystal clear (tea color), so the algae are nor working
yet.

How goes the season elsewhere?

I took the cover off the lily pond Saturday. Water temp 45F this morning
after a cold rain. The marsh marigold is starting to bud. Most marginals
have some green sprouts showing. Lilies barely showing life. My tropicals
inside did well and should be spectacular this summer.

It has been a long winter for us and we still can't seem to get two days in
a row of nice weather. Yesterday was the best, besides opening the lily
pond I put the crab grass control down on the lawn. So the rain this
morning was well timed and it is already moving off, a bit of sun showing.
Unfortunately wind seems to be pushing it along.

Nice to have one pond going, even though I had a nightmare of raccoon
damage. They've been showing up on the webcam since DS got it back up and
running. Koi ponds will be covered until this weather shows some serious
signs of spring. ~ jan
