Default Goldfish turning gold

I see a lot of variability in when young fish turn gold. I've had new

fish as a result of breeding for the last two summers, some turn gold

before the end of their first year, while others seem to take a lot

longer. For example one of the oldest (2 years & 3-4" long) is only now

starting turn gold.
