Frogs not breeding
We have a fishless pond devoted to frogs, to give them a place to breed and
for the tadpoles to develop. This year for the first time since I started this frog-support operation, there have been zero frog eggs. Plenty of frogs gather around the pond every night and sing their little hearts out, but no eggs. Normally we've got tadpoles starting to develop legs by this time of year. I heard from a friend in another state that the same thing has been going on with his frog set-up this year. I am stumped trying to understand why the frogs are not breeding. Does anyone here have an idea what the cause could be? Are you seeing the same phenomenon? |

Not a problem here in N. Alabama, I try to make a place for the tree frogs to breed and it's been very successful this year, many tadpoles and most look likely to make it to frog. -- Nik Simpson |

Here near Jackson, MS the tree frogs are in their nightly chorus and

Do you have fish in the pond?
Tree frog taddies here, though I've noticed the ones in the kiddy pool not growing as fast as those in my water lily for sale tanks that are smaller but deeper than the kiddy pool. Dept can't be what it is about though, as I had a Rubbermaid container will just 4" of water that had taddies about ready to turn. Warmth maybe? ~ jan ------------ Zone 7a, SE Washington State Ponds: www.jjspond.us |

But at least they finally laid some. YAY!!! |

There may be something in this article
http://amphibiaweb.org/declines/ClimateChange.html too technical and long for me to digest right now but could have an answer? k :-) (Had a male tree frog show up, croaking. Stopped croaking, could be Lady Bullfrog, her of enormous size, ate him...) |
