In Phyllis and Jim writes:

We have come to the time when server fees are due for rpm. Looking at
the low volume of usenet traffic and the increasing popularity of free
social media, the moderation team recommends that we not renew the
contract for the server and that we consider going to free social
media.

There are other groups available and we could start our own. The team
would like to start a discussion to see what options people might
like.

Any opinions?

Please contact me at your earliest convenience about several ideas I
sent to you via E-mail, including:

- Gatewaying rec.ponds.moderated discussion threads as updates to a
Facebook page for the newsgroup.

- Posting text abstracts, with links, of RSS feeds of several known
pond-related blogs as they are updated.

- Writing a Introduction/FAQ article for the newsgroup, including
links to the existing Google Groups and GardenBanter web gateways of
rec.ponds.moderated, and crossposting it each month to both
rec.ponds.moderated and rec.answers/news.answers such that it is
also archived at www.faqs.org.

These have already been set up for other moderated newsgroups, and can
easily integrated with your version of STUMP to post to your newsgroup
automatically without moderator intervention. Usenet newsgroups, blogs,
and social media are not mutually exclusive, and rec.ponds.moderated can
support all of them while still existing as a Usenet newsgroup.

If funding the newsgroup subscription is a challenge, I would be willing
to contribute $20 towards another year's (or more) renewal.
