The watergardening labradors have signed out on vice
patrol duty. Some of the goldfish are spawning in the pond
and they _must_be_stopped! All offenders caught will be
removed from the pond to left on the lawn to contemplate
their sins. Makes for a long day.... rescuing sinners.
The squirrel encourages the vice patrol. Gives him more time
to rescue his peanuts from the magpies without hysterical
doggy interference.

And it sure doesn't need to be Mardi Gras to see
unusual things in the French Quarter in the evening...!

Reminds me of Mardi Gras (just ended). Religious zealots are bused in
every year from far away to witness the festivities and "rescue the
sinners". Fine with me.

But showing up on the television news the next day and complaining about
all the debauchery they witnessed and calling for the sinners to be
banished and for the police to put a stop to fun in the French Quarter
is a bit much. The only reason they saw what they saw was because they
came specifically to see it so they could complain on television the
next day. Fortunately, Mardi Gras has been going on since 1718, and the
zealots go home after their interview, so we all forget about them until
next year. Kind of like fish spawning - it's a sort of rite of spring.

Actually, most people have a fairly distorted view of Mardi Gras. None
of the parades take place in the French Quarter. There are about 25
parades over the course of two weeks and they are all "tame". They're
mostly family affairs and people really enjoy them. Vistors especially
enjoy them and often come with their families from all over the world to
see them year after year.

The cause of the zealots concern are the goings-on in the Quarter at
night. Liberally lubricated young people in a party atmosphere do some
crazy and stupid things. But you can avoid that (as most people do) by
not going there. I just have a problem with conceited people who try to
force other people to think and act and live as they do. And with people
who selfishly enhance their own repuation by criticising others (as long
as they can do it on television).
