Red Swamp Lillies

The red swamp lilies bloomed like crazy this summer. Each stalk had as many
as 8 flowers. They bloom in the early fall. Young plants come up around
the mother "bulb" and can be removed to start new plants. It takes them
several years to bloom again after separating the pups. They do best when
they're slightly above the water line and bloom better. They thrive in a
common clay soil with fertilizer sticks added each spring (Job's Rose Spike
chips pushed in around the bulb). Tropical, they need to come in before
frost. They like to sit in a pan of water in a sunny window for the winter.
Being a bit dryer in winter doesn't bother them.
