I cleaned my mothers pond out today and found 3 medium fish and 2 small ones. I
also found a vey dead frog! Anyone know what could have happened to him?
Everything else seems fine. One of the golfish is mostly white. It is very
pretty!

Dead frogs are due to one or more of the following:

-Geezerhood
-Not enough food before winter
-Pond ices over without enough 02 available
-Pond ices over with too much rotting organic matter
in the water
-Frog settles in a pond that has taken a lethal dose
of pesticide or herbicide
- Frog settles down in an area that freezes solid,
only a few kinds of frogs have the natural 'antifreeze'
in their blood

Preventive
Keep a hole open in the ice, same as for fish. Larger
fish and frogs are the first to suffer poor water conditions.
Be vigilant about pesticide and herbicide in the water.
Monitor water conditions during the growing season.
Don't let chlorinated water or water with chloramines
in the water, use commercially available treatments.

This may seem like a silly question but are you sure the frog was dead?
I've seen some pretty torpid frogs in my time that "spring back to life"
when things warm up.

As K30a mentioned, some frog species can actually be frozen solid throught
he winter and revive!

Toads usually drown a female or two during mating.

Speaking of dead frogs. Today I had to fish a slimy dead frog from the
pond. It must have come out too early and froze. I didn't have
anything to fish him out so I had to pick it up with my fingers, ich!

This frog was bloated and rotting. He was dead! I thought frozen at first, but
no luck! He was gone!
