Default pond construction: grout and backing for stone tile

Hi all;

I want to build a cube-shaped fish habitat structure using stone or
ceramic tile, the kind that's made of 2" X 2" tiles on mesh backing.
I envision attaching the tile to some kind of backing and filling the
spaces with some kind of grout.

Is this a common practice? What kind of backing (PVC sheet, cement
board)? Are there waterprrod adhesives and grouts that will stand up
to being submerged in water?

Any expertise here?

Thanks a heap,
-Zz

I invision you need to consult a contractor familiar with building
tile covered swimming pools. Evidently your not too familiar with
whats out there and how its used, so it doe snot sound like your
looking to do a do it yourself project. But to answer your question
yes there is adhesives but normally tiles as such would best be set
with a thinset mortar mix, on a poured concrete structure with
reinforceing mesh and rebars. After tile is set in thr thin set, and
allowed to setup they arte grouted with unsanded grout. Depending oon
your local is whats going to govern what you can or can not use for
stucture to place tiles on , but best bet would be poured concrete.
