Fry- Colour Change timing

My pond has been built about 18 months, and the fry from the first
spawning have grown to between 1 1/4 and 1 1/2 inches. The fish are all
comets or shubumkin/comet crosses. About half the fish are shubumkin
like: mainly white with varying small amounts of black and red. The
other half have been black/green, but these are now starting to take on
an orange sheen. There are far to many fry to keep all of them. How long
in peoples experience will it take the latter fry to acquire their final
colours - at least then they are viable propositions for a pet shop and
I hope I don't have to cull them.

There is no way to know for sure. Some color up quickly and others can take
close to a year.
