What makes you think it kill your fish?

Floating heaters often get blamed for burning koi during the winter when
the truth is, the koi should not be up near the heater at all if things are
working correctly, clean pond, some circulation, etc. If the koi are up
around the heater it is due to lack of 02 in the pond. ~ jan

Sorry to disagree , Jan - your pond fish will "hover" in the pond as close
to the heater as possible - they prefer warm water - that is why they stay
at the bottom without a heat source above them

Jan is correct. Koi go to the bottom in winter (cold water) if there is adequate
oxygen. If they are up around the heater in winter or spring before the ice comes
off the pond it is because there is a lack of oxygen. Ingrid

Goldfish may "hover" but never a koi. If you have koi up by the heater
you've got a problem to address. ~ jan
