RPM and its "bias"
The whole idea behind RPM is to have a place to talk about ponds and
stuff without all the noise and bickering that goes on in rec.ponds, period. It isn't to ban anyone, determine fault, gang up on folks, favor one side of an argument over another, none of that stuff. As such, all posts, no matter who wrote them, are welcome. The moderators read through them, and try their best to separate the wheat from the chaff. Sometimes we make mistakes, and some of them are quite impressive. Some days we lurch one way, and seem to be biased towards some, then we may head off in a seemingly different direction, perhaps even appearing to be biased against those we may have been viewed as favoring just a few weeks before. There isn't a roadmap for all of this. We will screw up, and badly. But we will get some things right too. The moderators bicker and fight amongst themselves, that's for sure, but we hammer things out and try to move on. So squawk a lot, a bunch of us still read here, the input isn't unnoticed. We'll try to take steps to straighten things out. Sometimes I need a 2x4 applied to my head repeatedly to get my attention, but eventually even I come around. Keep making noise. If there is a legit complaint, eventually we'll make the proper adjustment. Galen, I sent one post that was on topic, and it got rejected. It was a request, a simple request. Let face it. It got rejected because of the poster, not the content. read it for yourself. Your message has been rejected because it appears to be off topic according to the Charter of rec.ponds.moderated. If you wish, you may rewrite this message so that it is on-topic, and then resubmit it. ... [snip] Maybe you missed the part where I mentioned that we are going to screw up, and screw up big sometimes. We can beat ourselves to a bloody pulp and have "mea culpas" all over the place and rack ourselves with guilt. Or we can get over it and try to move on. At least that's what I'm trying to do, with the knowledge that I *will* screw up yet again. It isn't a comforting thought. -- Galen Hekhuis "Mistakes were made" |

If people bitch about you, you must be doing a good job! Don't get too upset over mistakes; nobody is perfect. Except, perhaps, me. Yeah, it's still frozen. Maybe you missed the Part, when we knew that human factor and prejudices of moderation would play a part in the moderation team. Also these kinks were supposed to be iron out before you guys went online. I could make excuses, but in the end all that is really important is that they weren't all ironed out. I don't know that personal feelings can ever truly be divorced from any decision, but that is more of a philosophical discussion. It would be nice if moderation software existed that could take all human intervention out, but it doesn't exist. We do the best we can. Galen, why did you guys created RPM? Be honest now. I can only really speak for me, I got into it so that there might be someplace to talk about ponds without all the other stuff. I've been around USENET long enough to know that nym and reply-to type changes are trivial. My own IP address has changed at least six times over the past four months with no input from me whatsoever. You know it isn't possible to ban someone, I know it isn't possible to ban someone, any coding or attempt to do so is too easily defeated. -- Galen Hekhuis "Mistakes were made" |

Wrong Galen, totally wrong, I had submitted a few posts last night to rpm and not a one was approved. Simple little posts trying to get more interest stirred up on things that may have sounded mundane but stil on topic..Such as What exactly is PH, edibiity of Koi, and if yu remember this same topic was kicked abut and was said it wuld be appropved ..ring a bell? Wel guess what, it was not approved nor was half a dozen other posts, none with any inflamatory comments or subject matter in them, Yur a freakingbiased and prejudiced...not hard to figure out at all. ------- I forgot more about ponds and koi than I'll ever know! |
RPM and its "bias"
No, there isn't. Its much easier to secretly ignore and reject a post
from someone they dislike or do not want to hear from. What happened to my on topic posts 2 or three of them IIRC that never got a reject notice or posted..Pure and simple pejudiced mods, and the board does ban in a round about way ........Derek needs to resign and you al know it Galen. Derek is what has created this tiff on the group and the newest crap fest...plain and simple......and it ony shows that the rest of the mods are not squeaky clean either as they failto take any action on any issues or even a simple issue in a timely manner...... Bias and ban is what rpm is all about! Not hard to see it. Well, from one person's point of view, it was created so that you could argue with each other there instead of in news.groups. trust me, I would have posted this on NGP. But you know how that would have gone. If you want to fuss at each other, fine, just don't do it in news.groups. It's off-topic there (and probably also in n.g.p), and most people outside of your group don't really care about your personal disagreements. If I'm upset with my neighbor, I don't stand in the bank lobby and tell everyone there. |
