Diving Beetle..

Has anyone had experience with a ""diving beetle""??
I didn't know there was such a thing until I was digging into our old pond
getting some of the snails out.. and saw a beetle..
I searched and found info on them... now I know why my snails died, they had
a small hole in the shell and the beetle must have sucked out the inside....
