Repairing butyl rubber pond liner

We have just had to clear out the wild life pond as there was actually so little room in it for water as the Bog bean and something else had grown so much they had filled the pond completely. In doing so we discovered that a rather invasive grass has punctured the liner with its roots. The holes are just on the shallow area which I made for marginal plants, so even if not repairable we would still have a reasonable size and depth pond. Prefer to repair though, a new liner is a bit more expensive than we can afford these days.
Anyone any experience of repairing butyl rubber? And if so what did you use and where (in the UK) did you get it from?
TIA.

There are various repair systems on the market, one uses something like a
black rubber putty, anothet is like a bicycle repair patch, and I've also
seen a resin type one. All available at your Pond specialist.
