Can you "draft" a Bottom Drain?

For those of you familiar with my current disaster...

Would it be possible to sit the pump at the bottom of the reservoir and
thread the 1 inch output pipe into the 4 inch bottom drain pipe...would this
cause water to flow through the 4 inch in addition to the water being "shot"
by the pump?

If you mean to just sit the output loosely in the 4" pipe, then, I
wouldn't count on this actually getting any water up to the VF. Why
don't you get whatever couplings are necessary to reduce the 4" BD to
1"?

Because I don't want to lose the bottom drain.
