Fixing the pond edge
 

Help!

We built our pond last Spring/Summer and were pretty happy with it. It was
the "dig the hole, put in a liner and fill it up with water" type pond.

We ended up getting a "biofalls" and a skimmer and a UV clarifier and
although it ended up being a lot of money and work, everything was great
except that the edge (liner with flagstone on top) had high and low spots.

This year I wanted to redo the edge so that it was all even. I thought it
would be pretty easy, but I'm in a bind now.

I want it to be a steep drop-off, partly to discourage fish-eating critters
and partly because of space limitations.

After messing with the dirt and getting water in it, I can't get the edge
solid at all. I want it to be a steep drop-off, partly to discourage
fish-eating critters and partly because of space limitations.

I'm now trying to think of ways to shore up the sides, but I'm not very
happy with any of my solutions. I've already tried a couple and gotten
frustrated. I'd like to avoid draining the pond, but will do it if there's
something I can do to really fix this.

Does anybody have any solutions?

Dig a bit around the edge and put in one layer of bricks, making a solid ring
around the pond. Or, Dig as above and then fill in with dry concrete mix. Spray
water on it after you're done with forming, leveling. Put back the liner and
let the concrete cure.

Hi Sean,

Thanks so much for the advice. I think I'm inclined to go with something
larger than standard bricks, but not a whole concrete ring. This was
something I was thinking of trying, but it's time I tried something that
someone else has already been successful with.
