Hi
I read this newsgroup often and really enjoy it. I also gained so much just
from reading it.
I have posted before but was a while ago now.

The reason for my post is that I have a goldfish which has developed sores
and wondered if some could take a look for me?

This fish was in my pond last year and was overwintered in side as were
all my fish.
The rest of the fish are ponding right now.
He developed these this past week,
water tests perfect
any ideas?

I don't have a clue what is wrong with your fish.... which is
not unusual for me. Some folks do have that knowledge and
will no doubt answer. Have you visited www.koivet.com
yet? That is Doc Johnson's site and lots of folk have been
helped by it.
BTW, pretty pond you have there!

did these fish ever have little strings hanging from them? the chunks missing is
typical of anchor worm. check the fish in the pond for anchor worm too. Use anchors
away. it is dimilin and one treatment is residual for almost a month. it is not
harmful to the fish. treat the wound on that fish topically starting with cleaning
the wound out with peroxide and then rub in neosporin creme. run the temp up to 84oF
with GOOD AERATION to treat the aeromonas bacteria. add 1 teas salt per 5 gallons.
continue to treat wound topically ... do not put in melafix. feel wound to make sure
healing from inside out and is hard, no mushy underneath. Ingrid

No strings of any hanging from this fish or any for that matter. There was a
white like backing under the swelled scales at one point. I checked the
fish in the pond and no markings of any kind. I still have some inside as
well and they are fine. Can anchor worm spread to other fish? The fish has
been Isolated since I noticed this .

How do I clean the wound? Q-tip?

Does anchor stay dormant? because they have been inside since fall and this
has recently happened.

stuff by the gallons!

Yes, but considering your other information it's probably not this. It
would not stay dormant inside.

How do I clean the wound? Q-tip?

Yes, Q-tip and remove all scales that are loose. The unhealthly scales will
lift off as you move the Q-tip under them, don't be surprise that the wound
is bigger than what you see right now.

I'd also suggest using Lymnozyme. ~ jan

there is a layer of epithelial cells over the scales of fish. this secretes the slime
coat. People who have used it find the wound is healed over the top but the
infection is still underneath. perhaps it causes the epithelial cells to seal over
and the infection gets sealed inside. salt is a lot cheaper and better for fish than

pond. and feed antibiotic food. once the skin is broken bacteria can get into the
wound. in fact, they say all wounds are infected with bacteria.
It is odd that they have been inside. did you introduce any new fish?

No new fish were introduced, they were all the same fish I took out of the
pond last fall.
