Happened to my son, with his "no hassle" Capital One card. Believe me,
their advertising is a bunch of bull if your number gets snitched. Soon as
we cleared it up we cancelled the card and shred any junk mail from them.

Gracious!! Was your credit card number stolen online?
You hear about such things but never knew anyone it
happened to. What a mess, huh?

I was very happy with the way my CC company handled it. No questions, no
charges, nothing. All was taken care of. Very cool.

Happened to me with a small Linux distributor. The card company called,
A government agency of the country of the company in question called,
the FBI called. Seems they (the card number thieves) were not making
purchases but verifyiing the card's limit and, since it was caught
early, the offenders were apprehended. I had to cancel the card anyway
and have a new one issued.
