Determining Amount of Calcite

So I did some more research on using Calcite to clear the clay from my pond.

The info I have gathered says that you should use 1000-2000 lbs. of calcite
per acre of surface area to clear clay. So minimally, that is 1000lbs. per
43,560 sq. ft. My pond has approx. 130 sq. ft of surface area, so I figure I
need about 3lbs to clear my pond.

Does this sound right?
Has anyone done this?
Any ideas what else Calcite will do to my water? plants? fish? critters?

I can't find a pro's/con's list anywhere.

BV,

I used limestone in my smaller pond, and didn't have a clue about how much
to use. Dumped in maybe 10 pounds and it took a week to clear. It has
never been anything but clear since. I think that 3 pounds is probably more
than adequate.

Some of use use clay to line the pond, instead of liner or concrete.

that's what I thought you meant,,, but couldn't figure out HOW you kept it
clear!!??

we dug a pond out of clay (which is now overgrown with lilies) but the water
has always been muddy brown! (no filtration, & the frogs outnumber any fish
in it)

snip

In the area where I live, it is common for builders to remove all top soul
before building houses. They make a bit of a profit on it. The end result is
a yard made of hard, concrete like clay. As I was digging my pond (this is
my first season) I knocked a lot in to the pond, and then weeks of
torrential downpours added more.
