Rid-X

I asked before and never saw an answer. Does anyone know if Rid-X (for
septic tanks) is the same bacteria as BZT? It's WAY cheaper.

It doesn't look the same and it doesn't smell the same. I'd
say they are different. If I remember correctly, someone
asked Charles if they were the same and he said "NO".

Nope.. completely different set of bacteria. Septic system bacteria is anaerobic (works in low O2 conditions...ever been in a septic tank?? really low O2 conditions).. Filter bacteria is aerobic.

Don't use it..

I have no idea if Rid-X is the same as BZT, but
http://www.doughtywatergarden.com/Tips/Salt.htm suggests using Rid-X :
"Another good product is a dry enzyme that works in winter and summer. It is
also sold as Rid-X for the septic tank. It eats dead organic matter and does
no harm to fish or plants. It should be applied at a rate of 2 oz one time
per month. If there is a lot of muck the water will be tinted brown when the
black muck is dissolved back into the water it will clear up on its own in a
week or so."
