Hi, BV:
I bought some snails, bullfrog tadpoles, red worms, and plants from this
place: http://berkshirebio.com/ and was pleased with the items and the
prices. 12 bullfrog tadpoles was $20, and they have different packages
for snails, but I got the 25 pond snails for $10. Hope that helps.
Sue

what zone are you in? and how did the snails do

Hi, John:
I'm in Connecticut, Zone 6. The snails PROBABLY would have done fine,
except for an unfortunate mishap. The newly dug turtle pond that I've been
working on? Well THAT is where I decided to throw the snails. Couple of
days later after days of torrential downpour, my new turtle pond was full of
muddy water, since I hadn't quite done all the fine tuning with rock
leveling, making sure no run off goes INTO the pond, etc. Sweet hubby
volunteered to vacuum out the muddy water with a shop vac while I was busy
doing something else, and about three quarters of the way through, a light
bulb went off in my head and I shouted "STOP - THERE ARE TINY SNAILS IN
THERE!" I was able to find and retrieve 6 of them from the filter of
the shop vac, and those are doing fine. Not sure where the other 6 are.
They are very small, though, little smaller than the eraser on a pencil.
