Concrete Block
 

I'll be building a new pond this spring/summer/fall, etc. Does it ever
end?

I want to line the sides with block for stability of the sandy soil
here in Florida.
My question: Do I need to cover the liner side of the block wall with
some type of cushion to keep from puncturing the liner and if so, what
do you suggest as a cushion?

Liner cushions against abrasion. Rug works well if it is not termitable
(i.e. synthetic)

I would be concerned about the 90degree edge of the block. I'd think that
this could wear down most cushion materials.

the best stuff is synthetic foam carpet underlayment. at the top I put a double
layer over the edge. however, people could just trowel on a layer of cement on the
block if they didnt like the looks of a square edge. since this part is not water
holding, I guess I dont worry about it. the shelf was also made of block, and there
I did worry, so 2 layers there but frankly, it doesnt shift and I am not in there
walking on it very often either. Ingrid

Ingrid, How long has your pond with the block been setup?
Also since you folks have the experience I don't, I may post a plan of my
pond/filter/piping system & ask for comments. If I can figure out how to do
that. Can some one help there?

Dan for you best to demonstrate your design, you will probably need some
pictures. ASCII art doesn't work well in these proportional font days
anymore. Ahh the good old days, but I digress. I'd suggest you doodle up
some pictures of your plan, type up some notes and post them on the web.
Then post the link here so we can all surf over and check it out.
