Leaf catching screen

As Labor Day approaches I am thinking of how to construct a screen to
catch the leaves and pine needles. My pond is 8' X 10'. I have
plenty of 3/4" plastic netting (used to keep birds off the
raspberries) but what kind of frame should I put it on?

I am thinking of a flat wooden frame but that could be a bit heavy to
remove for cleaning. How about one made of 1/2" pvc? Maybe it could
even be dome shaped so that the leaves would naturally fall off.

What do others use?

TIA

I use the netting you already have without a frame - I just pull it tight
over the pond and use a rock every couple of feet to hold it there, right up
over my waterfall - it is barely noticeable and my waterfall is still
running . I remove it about Nov when I get the leaves cleaned up for the
season - the leaves don't collect on it - some people here do build an
a-frame and am sure someone will describe how they did it

Determine the circumference of your pond.
Purchase lengths of half inch PVC pipe to equal this measurement and
couplers to join them together in a round shape. Then tie string or fishing
line across to pull the circle into an oval or ellipse shape to fit your
pond. Then lace the net onto the PVC frame. You now have a removable, self
supporting net cover.
PVC can even be painted to help blend in.
Pictures on request.

That's what I did, worked very well.

My BIL uses the 1/2 inch pvc pipe to construct sections about 5 by 10 foot
that he lays across the pond. They are rigid enough to support the leaves,
and light enough to be able to pick them up and dump them. The netting you
have will do good at catching leaves, but it doesn't do much for pine tags.
For pine tags, you really need something finer, like shade cloth.

I tried netting, ended up making a tea bag the night the leaves just dumped
on it, weighted it down into the water. Now I use bug screening, as
pictured on my website. I'd love to have a screened house around it, but
I'm not that talented.... yet. ;o) ~ jan http://users.owt.com/jjspond/
