Is adding a air back wash a good ideal for bead filter in my 55 gal. drum ?

Build an air back wash system

Adding air to the filter is just plain GOOD. It will help agitate the beads;
it helps to keep them clean; it feeds oxygen to the biobugs; it adds oxygen
to the return water. Biobugs that are exposed to higher oxygen content grow
faster and do their work better; fish that have more oxygen grow better,
have better color, and fewer health problems. You can't go wrong.
