You have winters in the UK.....j/k ;o) (Steve didn't know for winter till he
came to NE Ohio in the US......Derbyshire has nothing on us when it comes to winter.) I haven't tried over wintering any yet......but I know several people seem to do it here in the US. Hopefully someone will notice this and post to you. Lisa "david williams" wrote in message ... HI ,Is there any way I can over winter these plants here in the UK? thanks DW |

In the USA, I have overwintered two out of the past three years. The key ingredients appear to be lots of sunshine, some fertilizer, some warmth (from sunshine, and being a heated sun room), no sunshine on the roots (no clear containers), and keeping insects off of the plants (I spray them). When spring arrives, they might not look real great, but they do have a fair amount of green, and are growing. I put them out when the night time temperatures are staying above freezing most of the time, and cover them when the temperatures will dip to near freezing. If the temps will go more than a degree or two below freezing, I bring them in again. One year, I pitched out quite a few of them because they continued to grow quite a bit through the winter. However, my water lettuce all died this winter. Oh well. :-( Jerry |

I've been successful in my z5 garden simply taking them inside and keeping
them in a large dishpan under fluorescent lights for most of the winter. Some die off, and all of them shrink to a few puny leaves, but all it takes is sunlight and heat in the spring and I'm pulling them out for the compost pile. "david williams" wrote in message ... We have had lots of discussion of the options here in the ng. Ours make it
if they are not frozen in. We leave them out, in the water, under plastic. As long as the growth bud does not freeze, we loose some of them, most all the leaves, but get great new growth in the spring. Try searching the archives for discussion of wintering WH.
