Koi Clay vs Kitty Litter

I have a persistent string algae problem, generally goes away mid July
when my bio filter gets very active. I have already posted regarding Kitty
litter, tried Koi Clay on my last bloom.

Kitty Litter - Wallmart's "Special Kitty" "ingredients clay", non
clumping. The $2 25lb bag I bought is coarse but completely breaks down
and washes away

Koi Clay - Brand "Koi Clay"

Results:

Identical!

Both completely clean all waterfalls and moving water areas. Both leave
some reduced health string algae in slow moving areas. It can't be used as
fishing line VBG and can be harvested without damage to my delicate 4
leaf clover. Before, I tore up even parrots feather when harvesting.

The only real issue I can see is, although I happened to get the right
clay in my kitty litter, it is not labeled as to what clay it is.

Of course, the box of Koi Clay doesn't specify the specific clay either!
(6 lb box).

I'm under the rash assumption they both are calcium bentonite.

Treatment regime (either)

- Add a couple tablespoons to pool at waterfall top.

- next day, add more downstream

- work downstream each day as needed

It appears to weaken the strands, not outright kill them. I have a very
large collection of the weakened stuff at the bottom of my lower pool. It
will be sunlight starved very soon as floating plants fill in.
