Trapdoor snails making an escape
 

Hi all,

My wife reports that this morning she found three of our trapdoor snails on
our lawn instead of the pond. Unfortunately, she found one of them by
running it over with a bicycle.

Does anyone know why they might be wandering? We've had the pond for a few
years now and they haven't done this before. Do they start migrating in the
summer after a few years :-)? I think the water quality is good. We had a
big rain last night, so I think they're just roaming because they can, but I
wanted to make sure it's not a sign like rats leaving a ship...

Hi Paul,

I had one trapdoor snail that made it all the way to the compost pile. I don't
think they have much in the way of brains. But it may be that they think they
need to look for food and have decided there are too many of them in the pond
and off they went...

Ummm.. maybe they are just testing the trap door, and can't find it fto get
back in from the other side?
