Keeping lilypads over winter??
 

Hello!

I have a preformed pond (220gals) I will in Southern, Ontario, Canada. I'd
like to know, if I should take my lilypad out of my pond, bring it inside
over the winter months? Or will it grow new pads in the spring?
I do have to take out all of my goldfish and put into an aquarium, as the
whole pond will freeze over.
I look forward to some feedback.

I'm in S.O. too. Last year I just dropped my Iris and Lillies to the bottom
of the pond and they were fine this year. My pond is only about 30+ inches
deep.

Deb, what kind of lilly is it? Hardy or tropical? If it's a hardy lilly just
drop it down to the deepest area of the pond. I keep my comets out all
winter with a deicer in the pond. :o)

LOL Crashj... Ontario is a province in Canada and Southern Ontario actually
refers to the area of the province. We typically refer to Northern Ont,
Southern Ont, Eastern Ont and Northwestern Ont, etc. It's a big province.
:o) I am in extreme Southern Ontario in Niagara Falls, zone 6b. And yes,
preforms do come deeper than 18 inches and they don't necessarily freeze
solid up here.I had one as my top feeder pond for the stream that was almost
4 feet deep, it has never frozen solid.

gallon aquarium was about 20" deep, and a pond is going to have a larger

LOL @ derek! Ahh... but those casinos are providing a booming economy,
increased property values, non-existent unemployment and a ton of
community improvements. Just one such example is the new multi-million
dollar community center complete with a library branch, Heart Niagara
(cardiac aftercare and support), a senior's center, pools,a skateboard
park, etc. Our Boys and Girls Club is also building a new center. We have
had 2 new elementary schools built in the last 6 years and now a brand new
state of the art highschool.**And*yes.*some*of*the*tourist*traps*ar e
tacky,*but*no more so that any other major tourist city. We saw far worse
in Seattle last year. But some of those "tacky" businesses are far from
it.... We are getting a Ripley's Aquarium and a Wild Country Resort that
boasts an indoor waterpark. Existing far from tacky businesses include*
the*likes*of*The Butterfly Conservatory and The new bird aviary that
opened this year (the name escapes me at the moment)....

LOL. I'm convinced :-) I really have nothing against casinos as
businesses - people who want to lose money in them are welcome, imo (I _do_
oppose the proliferation of video lottery terminals in every bar in most
provinces of the country), but every casino I've ever seen has been
UGLYYYYY. Here (Halifax) people complained that a new sewage plant, on the
edge of downtown, was going to be an eyesore. I said just make it tall
enough to hide the hideous casino and it would have to be an improvement!

To be completely fair, too, the last time I was in the American NF (at least
5 years back) it looked like a slum.

And to bring it back on-topic, I'm still bitter that they wouldn't even
consider solar-aquatic sewage treatment. Imagine hundreds of acres of
water gardens spread around the city instead of two or three eyesores.
