Greetings Porgers

I figured that some of you would be experiencing pond withdrawal symptoms
due to your Winter so i thought I would post some pics to tide you over till
Springtime..

Lovely pics! Beautiful tanks. Lovely partner. Your pond design looks
original to me, a satisfying combination of formal and natural, really
nice. Although I have a sal****er tank as well as others, I think there
still is nothing as beautiful as a planted tank.

Especially this morning, before 6 a.m., temperature 5.2, wind chill -2,
dew point -2.2 !, it is comforting to see your beautiful sunny pond.

Looks great! I especially liked the Baghdad lily. I have one that
I expected to die because of the below freezing temperatures we've
had, but it still has new sprouts in about 50* F water.

I like your pond, but I miss my fish.

My pond froze over about 5 weeks ago and I haven't seen them since.
Actually I have a bubbler and a heater that keeps a hole open, but I
can't see inside. The pond is covered with about 6 in to 1 ft of ice and
about another foot of snow over that, so it's too dark to see.

I a few weeks the ice will start to thin out and melt. I have no reason
to think that the koi and goldfish are having troubles, but I'll feel
better when I see them swim.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Ruth, it's a Roof liner, you inspired me
last year with yours, seems to be going good so far.
Hal, is Baghadad Lily the common name for it? Learn something new everyday.
The blue one is an endemnic species (Nymphae Capensis). At the moment I'm
more worried about the hot temp here, 35 degrees +, so they're taking a bit
of strain at the moment!

I don't know. Looks like what I bought as a Baghdad Viviparous
Tropical lily and I didn't think it got too hot for them. Mine gave
me one or two blooms a week all summer. Check the top side of the
leaf opposite of the stem and see if you don't see a small sprout
coming out of the leaf. That, to my understanding is the mark of a
viviparous lily that reproduces from the leaf. This was my first
year with one and I've never tried keeping a leaf with a new plant
over winter in an aquarium, but I've heard you can do that.

The information that came with mine indicated the water temperature
has to be about 70*F for them to do well, but my water temperature has
gone as low as 40*F for a few days and I can still see growth coming
from the plant. After wondering about it, I don't care what it is,
I just hope it lives through the winter, so I don't have to steal
another $25 of my wife's jewelry money to replace it.

Love your planted tanks! They are simply beautiful! Thank you for
sharing the pics!
I have one freshwater tank with a few plants and LOTS of string algae.
I am working on it though.

This was my first

My first (and so far only) tropical lily was a a "Tiger Lotus Lily" (only
marginally striped, and not at all like a lotus, so I figure it was named
by a real estate agent or a used car salesman). I never attempted to

year - now I've got a greenhouse to start them in, it might work better.

I think that was a dog. You could read a vinyl coated book in a pond with a
face mask, I'm quite sure.... assuming it wasn't having a suspended algae
problem. :o) ~ jan
