OT - Tulip beds

Jane, your tulip garden bed sounds so pretty! Hope all the tulip colors
bloom at once for you.

I'd love to see the website you mentioned about tulip bulbs too! Please post
it for all - even though they aren't roses! I can't grow tulips well here in
Santa Barbara; winters are just too warm, and thrips seem to get the ones I
refrigerate and pot up.

Report: Here in SoCal we're having beautiful sunny Spring weather! There's
healthy growth on all but one of my roses, and 4 plants have actually begun
blooming! The first was a gorgeous bloom on First Prize, followed by
Roundelay, climbing Tempo and Ingrid Bergman, with breaking buds on New Day
and Ambassador. The rest are putting on buds, but slowly, oh, so slowly!
Late pruning is its own negative reward!

Thank you for the
feedback, Jane. Any new photos yet this year, or is it too early?

No pictures yet but I'll be in tulips up to my knees soon! I wanted
something to fill up the blank bed behind my summer kitchen while I'm
waiting for some hardscape work to be completed... I planted a them in a
grid pattern of high contrast tall eggplantish coloured ones with slightly
shorter salmony pinkish ones, then later softish peachy ones that are
slightly shorter emerge...I'm excited to see the interplay of heights and
colours. I'll send you a picture if it works! I want to send you a website
about patterning with bulbs.

Have a great day!

Jane

Thanks Susan,
I've loved the catalogues they send each fall. http://www.colorblends.com/
Maybe there are some bulbs like tuberoses that would thrive where you are.
Mmmm.Fragrant!
Cold front came through and now it's rainy and grey. Wish I was where you
are right now. Congratulations on the vitality and beauty of your roses! How
beautiful they must be in Santa Barbara!
I'd love to see them...do you have any pictures?

Thanks,
Jane

Hi Jane
Thanks for giving us the bulb website. I can see why you're enthusiastic
about the tulip color blends. Wow! And yes, tuberoses grow here; as a matter
of fact, a friend gave me a pot of them for Christmas.

No pictures of my roses in their new garden bed yet ... too soon. Quite a
few of them were bare-root just a few weeks ago! But later in the year...

Happy growing!
