Most of my roses look ragged from bloom burn and just lots of oppressive
and humid heat. Is there anything I can do, fertilizer wise, etc to help
'em out. I just sprayed with Malathalon to kill the Jap beatles and it
worked pretty good.

It helps to know where you are, what kind of
roses you have, any other information you
can share like feeding and watering schedule, etc.

A good source of information about roses
is the American Rose Society:
www.ars.org

You can access the Articles without having to
be a member.

I'm in Cincinnati. I have some Don Juan climbers, and an assortment of
different tea roses. I have one schrub rose however that's going like
crazy. Maybe I could clone it. Wouldn't I have to graft it too? Are all
good roses grafted?

I assume you have Hybrid Tea roses. "Tea" roses
are a category of old garden rose. Some old garden
roses cannot take spraying like the modern roses can.
I don't spray, so I don't have experience with effects
of spraying.

However, I tend to agree with Joe that your roses
like ours (in TX) are probably suffering from the
heat and humidity. If possible, give them extra
water. I learned that lesson the hard way. Watering
deeply once per week is nice advice except when
temps are well over 90 with no clouds! Lately
I've been watering well every three days.

Re reproducing roses: You can do a hardwood
cutting. I've done that, so has Joe. The American
Rose Society website has articles on rose
propogation. A basic rose book, like Ortho's
All About Roses, will have the information with
pictures.

Not all roses are grafted. All old garden roses,
all miniatures, and even some modern roses are
grown on their own roots.

Oh yeah. The promised rain from the gulf missed
us and slipped east. You're getting too much,
we're not getting enough. Typical!
