Cheapie mini roses

Hi people,
I was trying to buy some giant tropical plants for dirt cheap at one of
those cheap stores...and they had mini roses for $2.65 each so I bought 12
of the same colour to edge my entryway. I think these are meant to be
"florist" plants but I was hoping I could harden them off and plant them in
the ground as I've done with all the others I've had over the years. I'm
working on ammending my soil with peat and flowers of sulfur to acidify it a
little for the azaleas and rhody I am putting there also, and I wonder if
the roses can take a little acid without croaking. Any suggestions about
planting them? Shiva dear, you know all about these babies...would you
please advise me?
Thanks to all,
Jane

Cheapie mini roses

My boyfriend brought home a mini rose bush, about 4 inches tall and looking
really sickly (he got it from my stepbrothers office bathroom where it was
dying, my stepbrother said, give it to your partner, he's got a green
thumb - Yeah right!). So anyway, he brought it home and I decided to plant
this tiny little bush in the yard since I just coulndt get it to rejuvinate
itself in the container.

Well, here it is a year later, and this bush is now 21/2 feet tall, and the
only rose bush in our garden that blooms the entire season, that is to say
once it's bloomed the blooms stay on it until winter, granted they fade from
bright yellow to white by wintertime. But Im astonished. I dont feed any
of my roses, and I dont prepare my rose beds, I just dig a hole in the
ground and plonk them down in it, give them water when it's dry and I have
rose bushes that are over 7 feet tall every year and over 4 to 5 feed wide.

Hmmmm go figure.

Now if I could get my tulips to last more than 3 weeks in bloom Id be
stoked.

Just thought I'd share. My first post.

Jane,

I'm not Shiva, but... As long as you plant the roses in full sun and keep
well watered and fed, they should do fine. Many people believe the minis
are to be kept indoors, but they are not.

Thank you Cheryl, I appreciate your reply.
I'm very glad to know they're not just all fluff and no stuff.
Jane
P.s. It's fine that you're not Shiva! (g)....I hope I didn't sound
exclusionary asking for Shiva's input.

Ms. Jane--somehow I lost the original post. Ihad meant to answer that
I have never grown an minis except the ones sent to me from Harry and
David etc. by friends. So I know nothing. I do have several Rainbow's
End climbing minis coming, so I guess I will learn.
