Question about Roses Changing Colour
 

We have 4 rose bushes in our garden. When we first planted them, one had yellow roses, one had white, one peach and one pink. Now they are all dark red, kind of like a dark magenta, and the flowers are shaped in a strange way, they open out really wide and flat and they don't have curved petals like they did when they were first planted. The yellow ones aren't in the same place as the rest, but they also changed colour and shape.

Also, we keep getting yellow and brown spots on the leaves and white spots on the flowers. Is there anything I can use to stop that from happening?

Your plants were originally grafted, undoubtedly to the most common understock
used in the USA, 'Dr. Huey'. At some point, the scion (the part above the
graft) has died out, and the new sprouts came from below the graft -- the 'Dr.
Huey' portion. 'Dr. Huey' is a deep red, semidouble variety, which blooms only
once a year in late spring or early summer.

So how do I get them back to the right colours?
 

Do you know how we can get them back to the other colours?
Or are they just going to be those ugly red flowers for forever?
Sometimes the yellow ones grow out yellow and last year I had one pink one grow.

Dig them up and toss them, if you really don't like them. Plant new ones in
the colors you prefer, and winter protect them, so the grafted part is not
so likely to be killed off by harsh weather. There's tons of information in
this newsgroup on winter protection, from time to time.

If they do sometimes still throw a branch of the true, original color, then the
scion (top of the graft) is not dead. Find the graft union -- a thickened,
fist-like knot low on the stem. Cut off all branches originating below that
lump, but keep all branches coming out of the lump itself or above it. With
many varieties, the leaves and thorns will also be somewhat different on the
scion vs. the rootstock.
