mixed border

Hoping for some hints for companion plants for hybrid teas in a long
mixed border. It has .5-1m tall box hedge in front and wire fence
behind, about 2.5m deep. Existing plants are hybrid teas, lilacs,
hebes, lupin, delphiniums. Looking very spotty, any suggestions for
evergreen climbers (on fence) or shrubs (narrow spread)/tall
perennials to pull it together? Needs to be low maintenance. Should
I just give up now? I live in Tasmania, Australia - heavy frosts but
no snow, long hot summers (don't laugh mainlanders).

Try baby's breath, also known as gypsophilia. There's a white variety as
well as a pale pink one. I find it fills int he "holes" nicely, and crowds
out some weeds. And it goes with just about anything. Another benefit is
that it looks great in a vase with your cut roses.
