Default Winterizing Container Miniature Roses?

I'm in the Chicago area and my son gave me two ~18" ceramic bowls with
miniature roses this year. They've been kept on my patio, but I don't know
what to do with them over the winter.

Would bringing them inside work (extremely limited window space) or would it be
best just to plant them in the ground?

Thoughts, please!

Planting it, pot & all is a recognized way of
winter protecting roses. Chicago is Zone 5
or so so dig a 2' deep hole, put the pot in
and then cover with mulch. Some people
put the pot on the side & cover but planting
it normally works just as well.

Do this By november or so as the rose
has to acclimatize to the cold. Don't cut
or trim it in any way. do that after winter.

This works well even here in MN Zn 4a. However, I would add a hard learned
caution. If the pots are at all porous or valuable, you should transfer the
plants to a plastic pot or just put the plants directly in the ground and repot
in the spring. Clay pots will absorb water and the freezing and thawing will
fracture the pots.
