So, this morning, I go out to my car to make my morning trek for the
paper and coffee when I noticed deep tire tracks through my yard. I
then noticed that my 3 year old cherry tree had been hit, the redbud
sapling planted late last fall was almost knocked over, a couple of
just emerging narcissi crushed and one of my Don Juans apparently
driven over (but seemingly relatively unscathed. The car missed *my*
car by about 3 inches.

The kwaaza cherry had a nice patch knocked off of the base and is at
about 20 degrees list now. I white glued the wound and will probably
get some stakes and rope, although it's going to be hard to get it
upright without using turnbuckles or something (it's got a 3 inch wide
trunk, so it's not a tiny tree). The redbud was small enough for me to
simply upright it, and I hope that no permanent damage was done. I
don't know how it escaped being snapped as it was directly between the
tire tracks. I'm hoping that the Don Juan wasn't damaged, but it's
hard to tell what shock might have been incurred.

One bright side - I found bits of car plastic and a wedge-shaped slice
of headlight glass. Hee hee.

and yours see more "traffic" than others.

Yep, that's on the agenda as well.

Looking at the marks, I have to wonder whether someone was being
chased by the police. It looks like they came out of the alley at a
high rate of speed. Also, looking at the trajectory, I'm really lucky
that the little cherry tree was there as I suspect that it kept my car
from being hit. I think it deflected the car *just* enough. I'm amazed
that they were able to regain control of their car enough not to hit
my house.

In the first one, the track you can see is the *outside* wheel (if you
look *really* closely, you can see in the distance the redbud sapling
that was completely run over - I've righted it). You can see how close
the car came to hitting the house. In the other shots, my car is
actually about 3 or 4 inches further than there the car passed (I took
these shots the nest day after I had moved my car).

Oh yeah, I just found out the car was a Mazda - they left a badged
piece of plastic at the scene that I didn't see).

It's amazing what what can go on just outside while we are cozily tucked in
our homes.
