trying to choose between gallicas

I have been building a rose garden in a smallish city lot in zone 4a,
Minneapolis. I have 7 rose bushes; rugosas & canadians and this year
I added a few hybrid teas and a couple of hardy climbers. Next year I
would like to add one or two gallicas to the mix. I've been looking at
Cardinal Richlieu, Charles de Mills and Belle Isis. Does anyone have
any opinions about these roses?

If my memory serves, Charles was growing at the Uof M Arboretum.
A nice red with large flowers that had a flat trimmed look to the
top of the bloom. It seemed to be growing well there in the
landscape roses section where they do not winter protect the
shrubs.

I have not seen the others growing in our area.

Regards,

Charles

The new book from Firefly (2004) on Old and Antique roses says Gallicas
should be planted with the graft union well above ground, otherwise they
form a "thicket" of suckers.
