If you're willing to go a bit north of DC
into Montgomery County, the Brookside
Gardens is wonderful. I've been there
a number of time visiting friends in the area.

They have a very respectable rose garden
and a lot else worth seeing.

i was wondering about that one. Found it on the web, but will be
without a car so.... Probably stick with the Bon Air Memorial in
Arlington. Should be able to make it to that one on public transport.

Thanks so much for the idea though.

You might want to go to Dumbarton Oaks on the northside of Georgetown.
Extensive gardens and beautiful grounds.

The Rose Garden (National Garden) next to the United States Botanical
Gardens is not planted yet, but it is still well worth the trip there. Right
on the National Mall next to the Capitol Building. VERY neat building with
tons of plants - Bartholdi Park is right across Constitution Avenue from the
"Big Greenhouse" - Lots of plants and quite a few rose bushes. I live 2
blocks from there, must see if you are traveling here.
