looking for a yellow rose

I'm trying to plant a yellow rose in memory of my sister in law. I
planted a Buck shrub rose, Golden Unicorn. It is more of a peach
colour than yellow. I looked on the helpmefind website and many of
those roses that they listed as yellow looked more pink or peach to me.

I would prefer an easy to care for rose, but if a hybrid tea is the
only thing that will give me a true yellow colour so be it. Can anyone
make some suggestions?
Thanks.

If you don't mind something a bit large, 'Graham Thomas' is a nice
yellow. 'The Pilgrim' is another Austin that is pure yellow (with a bit
of white around the rim). I also like 'Mermaid' which is a rather large
climber and is a pale yellow.

I grow:
1) Teasing Georgia, which is an English rose. It
is a pale yellow but definitely solid yellow. Beautiful
bloom, large, sprawling plant, very healthy, very fast
growing. A recent offering so should be available.
I don't know how it (or any plant I'll mention) will do
where you are. Some that do well in my rather hot
area, don't do as well in cooler areas, and vice versa.

2) Symphony, another English rose, also a paler
yellow. Not as vigorous a rose but a lovely bloom.
I have two and I'm never sure if they'll last from
year to year.

I also grow several Noisettes but can't swear to
the colors right now - it's dark here. Let me
check tomorrow and I'll post again.

I used to grow:
1) Sunsprite, Floribunda, dark yellow. It gets an
8.5 ARS rating, which is rather high. I didn't have
much luck with it but again heat could be a problem.
2) Sun Flare, Floribunda, medium yellow. ARS
rating 8.3. Same problem as Sunsprite. I did
kill off a bunch of roses before I understood you
have to water every two days when temps are in
excess of 100, a drying wind blows constantly,
and roses are planted in lightweight soil in raised
beds! I don't lose as many roses now. :)

If there are any botanical gardens nearby, you might
also check there for roses that would suit you.

I grow Midas Touch and it is as beautiful, deep, and rich a yellow as you
can hope for. No pink, no peach, and no touches of other color, just solid
deep yellow. The plant is totally disease free and never gets the least bit
of blackspot or mildew, and it blooms, and blooms, and blooms. The only
catch for you might be-- my Ortho rose book says they sometimes open too
fast in hot climates. I don't have that problem in Seattle cuz our summers
are usually mid 70's to low 80's. But I think it's got the color you might
be looking for. (On the HelpMeFind photo page, the very first photo and the
very last one are the best examples of what my plant looks like in Seattle--
not the paler examples). Hope that helps with another suggestion.

Golden Wings is a butter yellow single (5 petals) that performs beautifully
with little to no care.

The Buck rose "Prairie Harvest" is a very good rose that is
yellow. It is, for a yellow rose, easy care. It does well here
in Minneasota and a grower in North Carolina claims it is the
best yellow rose on the market. YMMV.

Charles

It doesn't get any easier than Baby Love.

http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/pl.php?n=495

It grows in a bush fashion and is very thick with foliage, which is a
nice dark green. It's only barely touched by black spot. It blooms
almost continuously for months, but the blooms only last a few days.
To keep it blooming, you have to do a lot of deadheading, but it
doesn't take long if you do it regularly. All you have to do is pinch
the small buds off with your fingers. It looks great at the end of the
season if you let the spent buds go to hips. The blooms have a light
licorise aroma and bees love them. They are small - around 2 inches or
so.

It's a vigorous grower that keeps a nice bush shape and the only
pruning you have to do is to cut it like you would a hedge, i.e. to
shape. You can use hedge clippers on it. It will eventually get around
5 feet tall.

Thanks for all the replies! I think I'm going to try a Sunsprite. I
hope I can find it locally. If not I'll order it. I already know
where to plant it and I don't mind watering it every day during the
summer if needed.

I found a nursery not too terrible far from me that carries the
Sunsprite on its own roots. I have to be up that way in a couple of
weeks and will stop and make sure it is what I really want. I hate
going to the trouble of digging a rose hole for something that isn't
going to work.

Sunsprite was the first rose I ever bought and I got it for about $5
at K-Mart! When I moved, it was again the first rose I bought. It's my
sentimental favorite.

I had a Gold Medal, too (grandiflora, IIRC) and it was beautiful, too.
