LOW TURNOUT FOR ANTI-GM RALLY SENDS CLEAR MESSAGE
September 15, 2003 Life Sciences Network http://www.lifesciencesnetwork.com/n...sp?newsID=4777 The anti-GM movement barely managed to scrape up 100 protesters for a lunchtime rally at Parliament today to oppose the lifting of the moratorium next month. "The low turnout today sends a clear message to politicians about how accurate claims there is widespread opposition to genetic modification are," Chairman of the Life Sciences Network Dr William Rolleston said. "The public would be forgiven for not realising there has been a campaign of protest action around the country for the last 10 days. "We would imply from the low turnout in Wellington and other centres around the country that the vast majority of the public accepts that case-by-case assessment of applications to use GM is the appropriate way forward for New Zealand," concluded Dr Rolleston. |
