Default Barn Swallows

How does one get rid of these birds - without harming them? They are
sleeping on a ledge of about 1 inch wide above my garage door and the
mess they make is getting to be intolerable. Any advice will be
appreciated.

Don't allow them to build a nest, (but please wait 4 weeks if there are
eggs/babies!), then put up an owl decoy......

I say put up with the mess till you are sure there are no babies. How
hard is it to hose it off? I know it's a mess, but they are very good
luck, very wonderful birds to attract and I have them too, but the poo
is at my front door! It's just something I tolerate.
